Myth: Ozone is smog
Truth: In the upper atmosphere ozone protects us from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation that reaches the surface. That’s good.
Truth: The bad ozone is at ground level. Cars emit carbon dioxide which reacts with the sun (UV). Those chemicals (NOx), VOCs, methane, and CO result in pollution or smog. Fossil fuels are the largest contributing factor to atmospheric pollution. Just another reason to move towards alternative and renewable energy sources. But that’s another article.
